Legal & Project Management NGO Jobs Kenya

Women’s Rights Awareness Programme (WRAP) is a non – governmental Organization based in Nairobi and whose core objective is to provide shelter for abused Women and Children.

Wrap is seeking to recruit dynamic, self driven and result oriented persons to fill in the following vacant positions;
Project Coordinator
Qualities and Competencies include and are not limited to:
* Good knowledge of and exposure in income generating activities and micro finance specifically for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.

* Must have a passion, commitment and understanding on children and women’s rights
* Strong research and analytical skills, ability to apply monitoring and evaluation techniques related to economic empowerment of women , including data collection and management, analyses and publication of solid reports;
* Proven ability to establish and maintain effective networks including governmental representatives, international organizations and NGOs, to work in collaboration with various actors having competing agendas, to maintain contact with many actors in several countries, to cooperate with governments on matters related to good practices and the promotion and protection of the rights of women , and to facilitate collaboration between stakeholders;
* Experience in integrating meaningful women’s’ participation in research, programmes and activities.
* Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, in spite of geographic and cultural distances;
* Ability to work with minimum supervision, establish priorities, plan work assignments, and meet deadlines;
* Highly motivated, sense of leadership and supervisions skills to guide the work of experts, partners, interns and volunteers;
* Professional judgment, responsibility, flexibility and ability to exercise discretion with regard to sensitive and confidential information;
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
* A team player and a passion and commitment to empowering women socially, economically and legally.
Responsibilities and typical tasks
The Project Coordinator is expected to perform the following tasks:
* Overall management and coordination of the projects.
* Analyze the collected information and prepare the relevant reports both narrative and financial.
* Contribute to organizing and facilitating various meetings regarding the projects;
* Monitor and follow-up the project’s objectives and impact;
* Network with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental institutions, agencies or organizations with similar activities ;
* Guide and supervise the work of experts, partners, staff, interns and volunteers who are tasked to help in information and data collection, and take part in many strategic and coordination meetings;
* Developing training manuals on various issues.
* Organizing workshops/ seminars, to document and share the acquired expertise with partners;
* Preparation of concept papers, intervention strategies and proposal writing for various activities.
* Perform other relevant duties as requested.
Education
* A university degree, preferably in law, international development, international relations, political science, sociology or other disciplines related to human rights.
* A combination of relevant academic qualifications and extensive experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
* At least 2 to 3 years experience in project management, including at least 2 years in monitoring and reporting. 
Languages
* Proven proficiency in English in French, with excellent writing and reporting skills in both languages.
* This is essential to the recruitment.
* Knowledge of Swahili both written and spoken is an added advantage
Other Skills
* Good computer skills relevant to the position; knowledge of Word, Internet, Outlook, Excel, Acrobat, and Access is a must.
Legal Officer
Key duties and responsibilities:
* Handling all legal work on behalf of the organization.
* Running the legal aid project and supervising other related projects.
* Engaging in research into children and women’s rights.
* Providing legal and sound advice to individual WRAP clients and community groups as well as counseling clients on legal matters.
* Effective representation of clients in courts of law, tribunals and other legal forums
* Representing WRAP at workshops meetings and seminars.
* Facilitating community awareness and sensitization on human rights
* Any other tasks that may be assigned.
 
Skills, Experience & Academic Qualifications:
* A Bachelor of Laws Degree and must be an ADVOCATE of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate with a minimum of 2 (two) years in actual practice in a busy law firm.
* Thorough knowledge of the provisions of the children’s Act, UNCRC and ACRWC and other National and international instruments on laws protecting children and women.
* Must have a passion, commitment and understanding on children and women’s rights.
* Must demonstrate skills in arbitration, alternative dispute resolution
* At least 3 (three) years experience in civil and criminal litigation in a human rights organization or busy law firm.
* Very good research writing and presentation skills.
* Demonstrate ability in the use of PC based software including Microsoft office suite, word, excel, power point, SPSS and outlook.
* Good oral and written skills in both English and Swahili.
* Good Communication, interpersonal and people management skills.
* Good organizational and analytical, management and supervisory skills.
* Honest, transparent and a high level of integrity.
* Ability to work under pressure, for long hours and to meet deadlines.
* Age between 28 and 35 years of age.
* Previous experience in an NGO setting will be an added advantage.

The Kenya School of Law Jobs

The Kenya School of Law is a Postgraduate Training Institution run under the auspices of the Council of Legal Education Act, Cap. 16A of the Laws of Kenya.

The core mandate of the Council of Legal Education is inter alia to train for legal professional development and in particular to train lawyers for entry into the legal profession as Advocates of the High Court of Kenya.

For over 40 years the School has discharged this mandate under the leadership of the office of the Attorney 
General and the Ministry of Justice National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs.

From 2006, however, the School became a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency (SAGA) with an expanded mandate and reviewed terms of service for its staff.

The core functions of School as currently constituted includes provision of the following services;-

* Advocates Training and Paralegal Studies;
* Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Legal Research
* Accreditation and Compliance

In order to effectively meet these expanded functions the School wishes to recruit full time high calibre personnel who will join the existing strong team of staff to help it realize its vision of being the preferred centre of excellence in legal education and training in the Eastern Africa
region and beyond.

We are looking for independent, strategic actors who are in good health, are ICT literate, customer oriented, and can lead change. Specifically we seek to recruit:-

1. Principal Lecturer (CPD P &R) Ref: CLE/KSL/HR03/10 KSL 4
4 Positions
Overall purpose of the job
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Research, (CPD P & R), the incumbent will assist in identification, planning and coordination of specific training programmes, projects or research.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
* Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of 10 years, 5 of which should be in an academic institution in a teaching capacity. Experience in consultancy or project work will be an added advantage;
* Have the ability to coordinate and conduct short-term legal training programmes;

2. Senior Lecturer (CPD P &R) Ref: CLE/KSL/HR05/10 KSL 5 1 Position
Overall purpose of the job
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Research, (CPD P & R), the incumbent will teach short training courses and carry out research.

The incumbent will also assist in the planning and coordination of specific programmes or projects within the sub-directorate.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will:

* Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of years 5 of which 3 should as an academic in a legal training institution or as a consultant.

Qualifications / experience in consultancy / project work will be an added advantage;

3. Senior Lecturer (ATP & PS) Ref: CLE/KSL/HR06/10 KSL 5 2 Positions
Overall purpose of the job
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Advocates’ Training Programme and Paralegal Studies, (ATP & PS), the incumbent will provide teaching, research, and assist in planning and coordination of academic programmes in the School.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
* Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of 5 years, 3 of which should be in an academic institution in a teaching capacity.
* Have the ability to conduct legal training at a practical level;

4. Senior Quality Assurance Officer Ref: CLE/KSL/HR1/11 KSL 5 1 Position
Overall purpose of the job
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Quality Assurance, Compliance and Accreditation, the incumbent will be responsible for developing, directing and coordinating a comprehensive quality assurance and quality control policy focused on legal education and training in the Country.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
* Possess a Master’s degree in Curriculum Development, Education Planning or Management from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of 5 years, 3 of which should be as a quality assurance officer or related position;
* Have demonstrated ability to perform standard quality assurance / control evaluation procedures, data evaluation and concise report writing skills;

5. Compliance Officer Ref: CLE/KSL/HR2/11 KSL 6 1 Position
Overall purpose of the job
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Quality Assurance, Compliance and Accreditation, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that regulations, rules, policies and laws are adhered to.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
* Possess an LLB degree or equivalent from a recognized university. A post graduate degree and additional academic qualifications in public relations will be an added advantage;
* Have served for a minimum of 5 years in legal practice or related position;
* Have demonstrated strategy to enforce rules and regulations;

6. Lecturer (CPD P &R)Ref: CLE/KSL/HR05/10 KSL 6 2 Positions
Overall purpose of the job
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Research, (CPD P & R), the incumbent will teach short training courses and carry out research.

The successful candidate will:
* Hold a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option) degree or equivalent. Possession of CPA (K), or equivalent will be a definite advantage;
* Have a minimum of 5 years work experience in a busy accounting environment preferably in credit management

8. Performance Contracting and ISO Standards Coordinator Ref: CLE/KSL/HR4/11 KSL 7 1 Position
Overall purpose of the job
Reporting to the Assistant Director Finance & Administration, the incumbent will coordinate and report on the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Systems processes and Performance Contracting functions of the School.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
* Hold a Bachelor of Commerce, Economics or Social Science degree or equivalent;
* Have a minimum of 3 years work experience in a busy organisation;
* Possess some knowledge of ISO International Standards and Performance Contracting will be a definite advantage.

9. Support Staff Ref: CLE/KSL/HR4/11 KSL 10
2 Positions
Overall purpose of the job
To ensure a clean and organized School environment.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
* Possess a valid certificate of medical fitness;
* Possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct;
* Relevant working experience will be an added advantage.

* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;
* Have good customer care and public relations skills;
* Possess good interpersonal relations skills and be a team player;
* Have the ability to work under minimal supervision.
