This Business Development Manager position will play a key role in the strategy to increase the client’s size and scope of activities within the East African region.

It is responsible for new projects and business development for the Eastern Africa cluster with its office located in Nairobi, Kenya.

This position is likewise based in Nairobi, Kenya and will be reporting to the Cluster Director.

The Business Development Manager will be directly responsible for building the business development
pipeline and identifying and developing projects.

The role involves market studies, investment evaluations for new locations, and merger and acquisition opportunities as well as expansion (or rationalization) of existing facilities.

Results will especially be measured on maintenance of a strong project pipeline, actual projects approved and subsequently secured in negotiations incl. tenders’ and possible acquisitions.


Duties & Responsibility
Ensure alignment of cluster business development strategy with the overall business development strategy.
Coordinate periodical updates of the regional business development strategy.
Build the cluster business development pipeline.
Prioritize cluster project opportunities and secure all required sign-offs from management.
Develop business case assumptions on the ground in the various projects and build first class business cases reflecting those assumptions.
Participate in negotiation teams.
Keep Regional Management in Cape Town and other internal stakeholders updated as required by process outline.
Take charge on setting up the new projects incl. company formation and start-up investments and ensure delivery against business case assumptions in the initial stages of operation.
Maintain a true and unique relationship with existing customers and in-house companies to ensure that the client acts as a wise and first to-ask facilitator in regards to their challenges, new ideas etc and to further ensure that the client addresses, acts and follows up promptly to ensure their continued satisfaction with services and capacity to handle their requirements.

Required Experience
Minimum 5 years experience from shipping, logistics or supply chain management required, preferably in East Africa.
Experience from business development preferably in Kenya, Uganda or Tanzania.
Business school / university degree required.
Financial analysis or valuation skills needed and Excel expertise essential.
Experience in negotiating large contracts and closing deals is an advantage.
Experience from a multinational company an advantage.
Excellent analytical, collaboration and communication skills.
High self drive and ability to perform under stress, multi-task and shift priorities on a short notice.
Integrity, commitment to the organization’s core values and code of conduct and cultural awareness.
Willingness to spend time away from the office, in the front line interacting with customers, partners and building the business cases.
A commercial mindset that can identify and develop business opportunities.
Strong communication skills in English in all forms including written, oral, email, telephone, and presentation.
